Thotalagala

Perched dramatically at an elevation of nearly 1,500 meters amidst the misty peaks of Haputale, Thotalagala is an extraordinary heritage planter's bungalow painstakingly restored to its late 19th-century glory. Surrounded by 20 acres of manicured lawn, tea gardens, and ancient montane forest, Thotalagala offers an immersive journey into the golden age of the British Raj and Ceylon tea pioneers.

Seven Historic Themed Suites

Thotalagala houses just seven magnificent suites, each named after pivotal historic figures who shaped the Uva province, including Sir Thomas Lipton, James Taylor, Governor William Gregory, and the pioneering planters of Dambatenne. Furnished with museum-quality Victorian antiques, vintage maps, authentic sepia photographs, open log fireplaces, and lavish claw-foot bathtubs, each suite exudes timeless aristocratic warmth.

Exclusive Access to Lipton's Seat & Dambatenne

Guests at Thotalagala enjoy exclusive private privileges, including personalized access to the historic Dambatenne Tea Factory—founded in 1890 by Sir Thomas Lipton himself—where the global branding of 'Ceylon Tea' was born. A short scenic drive or walk brings guests to Lipton's Seat, an iconic cliff-edge precipice that commands breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views across seven Sri Lankan provinces on a clear morning.

All-Inclusive Aristocratic Hospitality

Every stay at Thotalagala is fully inclusive, encompassing English country breakfasts, barbecue lunches, traditional silver-service high tea, and four-course formal dinners served in the opulent dining salon beside the roaring fire. Private butlers cater to every whim, offering hot water bottles at turn-down and vintage single-malt whiskies in the cigar lounge.
